Lacing Machine - Long or short spokes appearing during lacing.

New machine, technician installed it and it was fine, but now short spokes are showing up.

Sometimes, when teaching a new rim model, the operator might forget to adjust the machine correctly. This can cause issues like short spokes appearing during the lacing process, even if the correct measurements were used. To avoid this kind of error, it’s important to always check the settings before starting the process:

On the main screen, locate the "Hub" option. Ensure that the hub setting matches the rim and hub model ("Left" or "Right") that will be used. This step is essential to ensure the rim lacing is done correctly.

How to know the correct model?

The F1 model is characterized by the position of the holes in the rim and the hub filling method.

Notice that in the F1 model, in relation to the valve hole, the right-side hole is higher than the left-side hole. The way to start filling the hub is:

  • one spoke on the bottom (select any hole to start) and the top spoke should always be to your "left."

The F2 model is characterized by the position of the holes in the rim and the hub filling method.

Notice that in the F2 model, in relation to the valve hole, the right-side hole is lower than the left-side hole. The way to start filling the hub is:

  • one spoke on the bottom (select any hole to start) and the top spoke should always be to your "right."

Given this information, check if:

Check if the selected hub model is compatible with the model being worked on. If not, follow these instructions:

On the main menu, press function 2 = Edit Wheel

On the next screen, just check if the hub mode is compatible with the current model.

If it is an F1 model, use "Left"; if it is an F2 model, use "Right." Scroll down to the "Hub" option and change it to the correct mode. Once done, just press "Stop" and the hub model will be corrected.

On the main screen, press 1 = Lacing.

Within the Function 1 = Lacing screen, check if the "Hub" option has been changed to the correct setting:

If this doesn’t resolve the issue and you notice that the spokes are either too long or too short, check the spoke length and ensure you are using the correct measurement for that hub.
